Longstanding RCL partner University of Bolton becomes University of Greater Manchester
The name change, approved with immediate effect by the Office for Students (OfS) in England, marks a significant milestone for the institution. The OfS, which ensures regulatory compliance and prioritises student interests, played a pivotal role in approving this transformation.
A valued academic partner
The University of Greater Manchester has been a trusted and valued partner of RCL for many years. Known for its student-centred and industry-focused approach, the University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through RCL, with subjects including business, law, health, and engineering and computing. Its emphasis on hands-on learning and employability has consistently set it apart.
This bold rebranding will align the University more closely with the vibrant and globally recognised city it serves. It will also further strengthen the academic and professional opportunities available to RCL students, ensuring their qualifications carry even greater recognition worldwide.
An economic impact study commissioned earlier this year revealed that this rebranding could inject millions into the local economy annually, further enhancing the University’s contributions to regional growth.
An historic moment
Reflecting on this momentous occasion, Vice Chancellor George Holmes expressed his excitement, stating:
“This is an historic moment in the institution’s 200-year journey. It is very good news for our academic community, the town, and most importantly, our students and graduates, who will gain a globally and instantly recognisable university name on their degree certificates.”
At RCL, we are excited about this new chapter and look forward to continuing our collaboration with the University of Greater Manchester to deliver exceptional academic experiences and opportunities for our students.
